The University/Platt Park area is home to the University of Denver, many university students, and other residents and businesses, including the first ever Chipotle Mexican Grill. Part of the original Town of South Denver, the Platt Park neighborhood ranges from Downing Street to South Broadway Street and from Mississippi Avenue to Evans Avenue. One of the most recognized business areas in the neighborhood is The Old South Pearl Street business district. Once struggling due to the partitions that happened in the 50’s by the addition of I25, in 1978, the Old South Pearl Merchant’s Association began holding its annual street fair and focused energy on improving the look of South Pearl Street. With grants from the City, the association installed the old fashioned street lamps and cobbled pavers.
Today, Old South Pearl Street and its quaint shops, along with Platt Park, and the new light rail station expected to be completed within the next few years, make the Platt Park neighborhood one of the most popular in Central Denver. Click here for more info.
